Folder Comparison Reports

DeltaWalker Classic offers two types of folder comparison reports: HTML and Snapshot.

To create one, open or run the folder comparison, then choose the report type from the File > Report menu: Create HTML… or Create Snapshot….

HTML Comparison Reports

A folder comparison HTML report is similar to a text comparison HTML report in that it:

  • Includes the most important settings used to produce the folder comparison.
  • Is great for sharing, storing, and tracking the change history of a particular pair or triplet of folders.
  • Can be two-way or three-way, depending on the folder comparison it represents. Three-way comparison is part of the Pro and Oro editions.

A folder comparison report can link to individual file comparison reports for the files in the folder comparison. Choose which files get one with the Linked Reports option when you create the report: All files, Changed files, Selected files, or No files.

Comparison Snapshots

A comparison snapshot is a JSON file holding the names and attributes of the files and folders in every node of the selected folder comparison, together with that comparison’s settings. Select a single hierarchy if you want to compare it later against the live file system. Select all hierarchies if you want to capture the entire folder comparison for archiving, auditing or other purposes.

Snapshots are saved as DeltaWalker Snapshot files (.dwss). To open one, choose File > Report > Open Snapshot….

Software Patch

File > Report > Create Patch… is available in a folder comparison window, but DeltaWalker Classic 3.0.7 does not create patches for folder comparisons: no patch file is written. To create a patch, open the changed pair of files in a text comparison and create the patch there; see Text Comparison Reports.
