Troubleshooting

Resetting the App State

Although it is rare, one or more values kept in the DeltaWalker Classic state files can get corrupted, preventing the app from launching or from working as it should. In those cases, deleting the app state files is the easiest way forward.

Please note that this resets all settings to their defaults and clears your comparison history. Your licenses are not affected.

Before proceeding, consider sending our support team your DeltaWalker Classic state and log files with Help > Submit Feedback…: they will likely contain clues as to what went wrong.

To reset the DeltaWalker Classic state, ensure that DeltaWalker Classic is not running, then:

On macOS: open a Terminal window (Applications > Utilities > Terminal), then copy and paste the command below:

rm -fr ~/Library/Containers/com.deltopia.DeltaWalker/Data/Library/Application\ Support/DeltaWalker

Then press Return.

On Windows: click the Start button, type cmd, open Command Prompt, then copy and paste the command below:

rd /q /s "%APPDATA%\Deltopia\DeltaWalker"

Then press Enter.

On Linux: run the command below in a terminal:

rm -fr ~/.deltawalker

Troubleshooting Sync Operations on macOS

If DeltaWalker Classic reports an error when moving, copying or deleting files or folders on macOS, it is most likely due to ownership or permission issues.

Troubleshooting Ownership/Access Control List (ACL) Issues

You can run into ownership issues when trying to copy or modify files that were created by a different user, or by you on a different machine. A typical error message in those cases reads:

“…effective UID does not match the owner of the file and the process is not privileged”

The solution in such cases is to regain ownership of the files, for example by changing their owner in Finder’s Get Info window, as described below.

Troubleshooting Permission Issues

Permission issues are typically easier to identify and overcome: the error message DeltaWalker Classic shows refers to them directly, for instance “No Permissions”.

There are different ways to work around permission issues:

  • Launch DeltaWalker Classic as root (administrator) by typing the following in a Terminal window, then perform the operations you want:

    sudo "/Applications/DeltaWalker Classic.app/Contents/MacOS/DeltaWalker"
  • Change the item’s permissions. You may also need to change the permissions of the disk, server or folder where you want to copy or move the item:

    • Right-click the item in DeltaWalker Classic and choose Show in Finder.
    • In Finder, select the item and choose File > Get Info.
    • Make sure the item isn’t locked, that is, Locked is not selected.
    • Click the arrow next to Sharing & Permissions to expand the section.
    • Open the pop-up menu next to your user name to see the permission settings. You may need to click the lock icon and enter your password.
    • For the item you want to move or copy, choose Read only or Read & Write. For the location where you want to place the item, choose Read & Write or Write only.

Unsupported Platform

Make sure your software and hardware configuration is among the ones DeltaWalker Classic is certified to run on, as listed in the DeltaWalker Classic reference platforms. For instance, DeltaWalker Classic needs macOS 11 or later.

Missing GTK (Linux Only)

DeltaWalker Classic for Linux needs GTK 3. Desktop Linux distributions include it; on a minimal installation, install your distribution’s GTK 3 package.

Insufficient Memory or Disk Space

Make sure that your hardware configuration is adequate for running DeltaWalker Classic. If it is, in rare cases you may want to increase the memory available to DeltaWalker Classic, on macOS with the Memory setting on the Settings > Application > General page.
